Future for UK roads looking greener than ever

17th July 2017

Electric and plug-in hybrid car registrations continue to rise and have now passed the 110,000 mark in the UK. This year alone, there has been a record-breaking increase in uptake. More than 22,400 plug-in models were registered between January and June this year, a rise of 14.3% on 2016, and 53.8% on 2015.

The fully-electric Nissan LEAF was the UK’s best selling plug-in car in the first six months of 2017. Meanwhile, BMW’s plug-in hybrid 3-Series saloon was one of the year’s biggest growers, rising 79.9% following its launch last year.

Meanwhile, renewable energy developments are enhancing the environmental credentials of electric cars even further. In 2017, low carbon energy sources regularly contributed more than 50% of the nation’s electricity requirements, and this, combined with the increased number of UK drivers switching to electric, is a very positive sign for the future of UK transport.
