EV Owners

See what electric car owners really think

Choosing a new car is certainly exciting – but can also be a little daunting. You can read the reviews, visit the websites and take a short test drive – but how can you find out what the car of your dreams is like to live with, day-in day-out?

Electric cars are new to most of us, so it’s understandable that you want to know more. How easy are they to charge? How far can you really go? Are the savings as big as people say?

There’s no one better to ask than the electric car owners and drivers themselves. The people that live with these cars on a daily basis. The people who really know what it’s like to make the switch to electric.

All opinions expressed and range, fuel economy and cost claims made by our owners are based upon the drivers’ personal views and experience. These are not necessarily shared or endorsed by Go Ultra Low, and we accept no responsibility for the opinions given. None of the claims made have been independently verified or corroborated and do not necessarily reflect the official figures from the manufacturer. All official fuel consumption and CO2 figures are obtained under standardised EU test conditions (Directive 93/116/EEC). Test figures are intended for comparison purposes and may not reflect real driving results.

After the first test drive… we have driven Teslas, LEAFs, etc and the Soul EV was our favourite by far – it wasn’t an odd-looking EV, but was definitely different, without being showy…

Rob Carswell, Poole, Dorset – Kia Soul EV owner

When I realised it was a stylish affordable option.

Indira Chima, St Albans, Hertfordshire – Renault Zoe owner

Test drive; so easy, so smooth, so economical, so quiet, so the future. Want one!!

Sheila Joynes, Worcester, Worcestershire – Nissan LEAF owner

I started my EV journey about 4 years ago and now I know I don’t want to drive a petrol / diesel every again! When I calculated my savings compered to my VW Golf I had, owning an EV was no brainer!

Joanna Benbow, Taunton, Somerset – Nissan LEAF owner

A ‘motorhead’ for over 55 years, it was an EV that brought a love of driving back into my motoring.

Barry Goldring, Slough, Berkshire – Nissan LEAF owner

Q: What’s the best thing about your electric car?

Q: What’s the best thing about your electric car?

The fact that I am not smelling diesel fumes any more helps. There is instant heat if I need it and it’s put the pleasure back into driving. I just love being able to hear myself think.

Chris Collins, Woking, Surrey – Kia Soul EV owner

She’s cute and different in the sense of innovative and standing out from the crowd.

Indira Chima, St Albans, Hertfordshire – Renault Zoe owner

Lots; but if I had to choose just one – low running costs.

Sheila Joynes, Worcester, Worcestershire – Nissan LEAF owner

Saves so much money! And air is so clean and fresh!

Take some for a test drive – you’ll fall in love with how an EV drives.

Rob Carswell, Poole, Dorset – Kia Soul EV owner

Go for it. You won’t look back.

Indira Chima, St Albans, Hertfordshire – Renault Zoe owner

Drive one. Had a free three-day test drive for the first EV I purchased.

Carl Gibson, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire – BMW i8 owner

Try one, then try the rest, then do your homework and don’t make excuses for yourself as to why it won’t work. Adapt your mind-set to be positive.

GNF Browning, Rugby, Warwickshire – BMW i3 owner

Monitor your day to day motoring as this will help with your decision. Most people are unaware of the distances they actually travel.

John Riley, Colchester, Essex – Renault Zoe owner

Q: What’s surprised you most since you started driving your EV?

Q: What’s surprised you most since you started driving your EV?

How cheap they are to drive. When I used to fill up my Jag it cost me £90.00 which would last two weeks. At most I pay 22p total to charge my car.

Chris Collins, Woking, Surrey – Kia Soul EV owner

Going past filling stations without parting with £70.

Barry Goldring, Slough, Berkshire – Nissan LEAF owner

That you want to drive it more and more!

Julian Kemp, Exeter, Devon – Volkswagen Golf GTE owner

Cyclists and pedestrians do actually hear you coming from behind them.

John Riley, Colchester, Essex – Renault Zoe owner

How easy it is and how little you charge away from home.

Andy Milton, Ware, Hertfordshire – Kia Soul EV owner
