NEDC is the Official European fuel efficiency test: All vehicle manufacturers follow standardised test procedures for mpg and CO₂ as set out by European law. These standardised tests enable motorists to benchmark models for comparison and therefore make informed purchasing decisions.

Real world fuel efficiency results will be affected by factors such as driving style, load carried and vehicle maintenance, along with traffic, weather and road conditions. These results are not currently standardised across manufacturers.
